Our fourth topic this year is 'How do things grow?'.

We will be talking about what plants and flowers need to grow, different types of plants and flowers, the artist Vincent Van Gogh and Easter. We will be planting and painting sunflowers, playing in our Garden Centre role play area and learning about Spring.

Things to look out for this term

*Baking

This year in nursery we have introduced a Curiosity Box which during the year will have a variety of different items in for the children to look at, and wonder about. These items will be things the children may not have seen before and we will be asking them the questions “I wonder what it is? I wonder what it does” and recording their answers.

In Autumn 1 we explored the items - a cassette tape, a stove top kettle, and a pocket watch.

In Autumn 2, we explored the items;

So far in Spring 1 we have explored the items;

A tram

Our first topic this year was 'Who is in my family?'.

We discussed our families, and who we live with. We created self-portraits to display in nursery, role-played in the house area and looked at similarities and differences between us and our friends.

Our second topic this year was 'What Makes A Magical Place?'.

We learnt about different special days and celebrations such as Diwali, Bonfire Night and Christmas. We made firework pictures using glitter, creating rangoli patterns and tea light holders and took part in our Christmas Craft Day.

Our third topic this year was 'Where In The World Do I Live?'.

We discussed how we travel to and from school, space, Chinese New Year, the weather where we live and in different places we have been to, and traditional stories. We designed and created houses made from junk materials and looked at the different types of homes people live in.
