 Sports Premium Funding

What is Sports Premium?

Sport Premium is an amount of money which the government has agreed to allocate to schools each academic year. The funding amount schools receive is based upon the number of children of primary age the school has at January of that year.  Each school in England will receive a block sum of £8000, plus £5 per pupil. The sport premium is to be used to increase the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision, and increasing participation in PE and Sport.

It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles.
  2. The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

At Clowne Infants and Nursery School, we strive to promote healthy and active lifestyles and aim to provide sporting opportunities for to provide sporting opportunities for all pupils.

Impact

Here are some of the impacts the Sports Premium Funding with have on our school:

The delivery of high quality PE is vital. With support of the School Sport Partnership and their highly trained coaches, the children receive high quality instruction in different sporting areas. This support is improving the quality of PE provision in our school ensuring the teachers are now even more skilled to take PE forward independently. Also giving staff the opportunity to go on PE training courses will help to improve their confidence in teaching PE and delivering high quality PE.

Attending local sporting events is vital to promote healthy competition with the children. They will take part in inter-school PE festivals (Inclusion, Dance and Mini Olympics) and inter-school events, such as cross country and football.

The children need good quality equipment to take part in the lesson fully. By buying new equipment, we will have all the sporting equipment needed to cover a broad and balanced range of activities.

By employing a playtime leader, the children will be able to engage in high quality sporting provision during lunchtime. This will encourage the children to take part in team games, develop different PE skills, and improve their balance and co-ordination.

Insuring that children have the opportunity for high quality play provision at playtime and lunchtimes is highly important. By making sure that the children have good quality PE resources and a new sports wall, it gives the opportunity for the children to create their own games and practice and develop their PE skills.

Our aim is to encourage children to access a range of different sporting opportunities through our after school clubs. We are planning to do this by funding targeted children for period of time. This will give children the opportunity to experience different sporting activities.
